Doctor of Pharmacy

This program is no longer accepting new students.

The joint matriculation agreement between Cleveland State University (CSU) and the University of Toledo (UT) that was signed on March 20, 2001, allows students interested in becoming pharmacists to begin their education at CSU. The six-year program leads to a Doctor of Pharmacy degree. It is intended for students coming directly from high school to CSU. Here is a general link to information on admission to Cleveland State University for undergraduate students. Individuals who currently hold bachelor's degrees should contact the University of Toledo's College of Pharmacy directly regarding admissions: http://www.utpharmacy.org/prospectivestudents.htm

The joint CSU/UT program operates as follows:

(1) The first two years of study are taken at CSU, involving courses in the basic sciences, as well as fulfilling general education requirements.

(2) The third, fourth, and fifth years are spent at the University of Toledo, taking professional pharmacy courses.

(3) The sixth year is primarily clinical training, at least some of which can possibly be done at University of Toledo affiliated clinics in the Cleveland metropolitan area.

Six years after starting at CSU as a freshman, the student will have earned a Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree from the University of Toledo.

Students admitted to the program will take the first two years of the six year curriculum at CSU, including the following course work:

· Introductory Biology
· General Chemistry
· Organic Chemistry
· College Math or Calculus
· Physics
· Pharmacy courses taught via distance learning.

Following completion of the first two years, the student enters the applicant pool for admission into the professional portion of the program (years 3-6) at the University of Toledo's College of Pharmacy.

Special Contingency Admission to the Professional Division

The College of Pharmacy has contingent admission into the Professional Division available on a competitive basis. To be considered for contingent admission, the following must be completed in the year preceding Fall admission:

Upon receipt of your completed admission application, additional materials may be requested. Final notification of contingent admission status will occur in mid-March.

Once admitted into the program, students must achieve a cumulative and science GPA of 3.5 or above, as calculated by the University of Toledo by the end of fall semester of Year Two. If a student does not meet the 3.5 GPA requirements, he/she must apply for admission into the program with the remainder of the class. Failure to complete required courses by the end of fall semester of Year Two at UTCP will render the student ineligible for contingent admission into the Professional Division.
